Kingston stared into Carsyn’s beautiful baby blue eyes, feeling more at peace with his past than he had in a long time. Telling his story was painful, but telling it to his mate had been cathartic, as well.

He only hoped that one day, he could help her look back on her time with her little sister the same way.

She sees you as I do, his cat said smugly. You can run from who you are, but you can’t change it.

He mentally rolled his eyes. Getting a little full of yourself there. It doesn’t change the fact that I still feel like an average shifter. You don’t have to like it, but you do have to accept it, because it’s not going to change.

His animal growled but didn’t reply. Some things would never change. Carsyn gasped, pulling his attention back to the present. Brow furrowing, he watched as she took a picture of the credit card.

“What is it?”

“There’s a guy’s name on this card,” she replied, thumbs flying over her phone as she typed out a message.

Picking it up, he stared at the card. John Fallon. Something niggled at the back of his mind, but he couldn’t put his finger on what it was. Frowning, he thought harder as he stared at the name, but whatever it was, it was locked away and he couldn’t reach it.

“What is it, Kingston?”

“I don’t know,” he replied slowly. “I feel like the name is familiar, but I’m not sure where I know it from.”

“I just sent the name and card number to Skylar. Hopefully, he’ll be able to track down some information on him, as well as Blair.”

Exhaling, he rubbed his hands over his face as exhaustion slammed into him. “I hope so, because without it, we’re back to square one.”

“You look so tired,” she murmured, brushing his hair back from his forehead.

“I haven’t slept much since taking this mission. There’s too much at stake.”

“I think you need to get a good night’s sleep tonight. There’s not much we can do until Skylar gets back to us. Why don’t we order some food and turn in? That way we’re well rested and ready to face whatever tomorrow holds.”

He studied her closely, taking note of the faint purple shadows underneath her eyes. He wasn’t the only one who needed rest, and that more than anything had him agreeing with her. “How does pizza sound?”

She smiled at his easy agreement. “Sounds good. Order whatever you want. I’m not picky. I am gonna hop in the shower, though.”

Nodding, he pulled his phone out and Googled the nearest pizza place. “I’ll do the same. But get your ass back in here, cuz you’re not sleeping without me tonight.”

She giggled, the sound lighted hearted and free, warming him from the inside out. “Wouldn’t dream of it.”

Watching as she made her way out of the room, he quickly placed the order before grabbing clothes and getting in the shower. He didn’t waste time, not wanting to miss their food when
